Today is World Diabetes Day. At We Care Animal Rescue, we provide care for many special needs cats including two residents with feline diabetes, Tommy and Clyde. We give twice daily insulin injections and these boys get regular vet visits, glucose monitoring, and frequent assessments of weight and appetite to manage their diabetes. Thankfully, they both tolerate their treatments like real gents and are definite staff favorites - shhh, don’t tell the others.

Are you missing that new kitten energy in your life? Binx is currently in one of our foster homes and ready for her forever home. At four months old, Binx loves to play with her teaser wands and small mouse toys. She loves to follow her humans around and make a bed upon your shoulder, or snuggle up in a warm blanket on your chest. Her super confident nature makes her an excellent companion for other animals—she will keep the entire household entertained and laughing all day. Binx is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on her vaccines. She is also litter box trained and well adjusted to being an indoor-only kitty.

Meet Mowgli, another one of our fabulous seniors. Mowgli’s not really the king of the jungle type, although he’s believed to be an enthusiastic Rudyard Kipling fan. His jungle skills are questionable, but he excels at being extremely friendly, charming and sweet to both people and animals. Mowgli would be happy to rumble through the jungle with you or just sit happily in your lap. He just prefers to be wherever his humans are and is the definition of a companion. Plan to safari over to We Care Animal Rescue and adopt this delightful cat with a tiny meow. Mowgli is 13-years-young and would be great in any home.

In honor of Adopt-a-Senior Pet Month, we wanted to show off some of our many sweet and sassy seniors.

Always dressed to impress, this ten-year-old is no stranger to self care. Squirt keeps her coat soft and shiny, a feat she loves to show off to any human in the room. She may be a little shy at first, once you get down to her level, she’ll happily charge towards you for pets and head bumps— and she’ll let out the squeakiest meow to let you know she’s loving it.

It’s more than fun and games with these two—there’s some serious lap time with powerful purrs and a fondness of full belly rubs. These two adore humans just as much as they do each other, and will keep you the best company. Two cats mean twice the love in your home, but not twice the work. Bonded cats entertain each other and are less likely to be stressed than a lone cat—they will be happier and healthier together.

Rumi is an outgoing young man and the first to greet every visitor with a hearty head bump. He loves to roll around and show off his magnificent belly, while simultaneously having a conversation with you. At three-years-old, he is still very curious about the world and is an avid seeker of adventure. If you catch him at the right time, he may even show you his acrobatic skills and fascination with fishing toys.

Rumi is a lover of the outdoors and would love a safe, outdoor space to explore. He is friendly with all humans and is learning how to be social with other cats. Sophie is an affectionate and sweet-tempered 13-year-old with a fondness of perching in high places. This girl shows great devotion to her humans and if you're the lucky chosen one, you'll soon find that you have a loving companion and greeter. Like a typical Snowshoe, she expresses her concerns vocally and will chatter with you about her displeasures. Her docile nature makes her a great choice for any household. Sophie would love to fill the position of lifelong lap cat and would prefer to be the only feline.
