We are dedicated to making L.A. a no-kill city. Join us.

Led by Best Friends Animal Society, we’re dedicated to ending the killing of cats and dogs in L.A. city shelters simply because they do not have a safe place to call home. Our plan is straightforward. Provide spay/neuter services where they are needed most so fewer animals go into shelters, and increase adoptions through the combined efforts of the NKLA coalition so more animals come out of the shelters and go into new homes.

The new state of the art NKLA Pet Adoption Center in the heart of West L.A. opened it's doors on August 1, 2013 and it features adoptable pets from NKLA Coalition Partners. Located at 1845 Pontius Ave, West L.A. 90025; Open daily noon to 8pm. Phone: 424-208-8840.

Since launching NKLA in 2012, the number of deaths at city shelters has decreased by 66%. We can Save Them All®.

It’s the last Meow Monday of Adopt a Senior Pet Month! Meet Carlton 😊

Carlton is a cool, calm, and collected gentleman. 🐈‍⬛ He likes to keep it casual and goes by “Carl” in his foster home. Carl loves to live in the moment and enjoys the simple pleasures of life. Some of his favorite activities are bird watching and scratching his scratch post. 🤍

Carlton has diabetes and takes insulin twice a day. He is a pro at taking his insulin and loves to have a cuddle afterward. Carlton is looking for an adopter who is prepared to help him along his health journey.

“As a foster, if you can provide them with a fluffy dog bed, good food, and a good walking routine, you can really turn a dog’s life around!”

November is adopt a senior pet month, and we’re thankful for senior dog fosters like Ranko Fukuda who help us find homes for these wonderful pets.

Ranko volunteers as a foster for our hospice, senior, and medical dogs, and has fostered over 25 dogs while volunteering at BFLA! Ranko’s very first foster, Tubbs, was unwell with a heart condition, and was originally considered a hospice case, but after 7 months with Ranko and a healthy routine, Tubbs gained his health back and got adopted!

Some of Ranko’s favorite fosters have been: George Lopez, Lamb Chop, Spencer- the blind/ deaf miracle dog- as well as Ranko’s own dog Soba!

Ranko shared “It is inspiring to know that these senior and medical case dogs DO GET ADOPTED- by awesome adopters who see what I see in these special seniors.” 😊

#TBT Adoption Update!

“My boyfriend and I adopted one of your cats on Saturday. Her name was Leila, we have since changed it to Tommy.

We wanted to let you know she is adjusting very well in her new home and is loving life!

She’s been very brave, having no problem adjusting to her safe room and playing with her new toys. She loves her bed and butt scratches!
She’s a cuddle bug and has the most adorable post-meal zoomies. We are absolutely in love with this angel.
